About Thompson Farms
Thompson Farms, a privately held, family owned and operated agricultural facility is dedicated to the maintaining and conservation of agricultural farmlands. Farm Founder Richard K. Thompson started "T" Line Jerseys in 1952, contributing to the production and delivery of quality dairy products. Since then, the Thompson Family has transformed the farm into a facility specializing in crop and cattle production under the Thompson Farms brand.

Purchasing The Farm: Richard K. and Phyllis Thompson purchased a farm near Sigel, PA following Richard K's service in the United States Navy during World War II.

Milk Delivery Service: Richard K. pickup milk cans from Thompson Farms and various neighborhood farms to be delivered to the creamery in Brookville through the mid 1950s.

1980s | Modernizing The Farm

Automatic Bale Throwing Technology: Square bale production accelerated with a new square baller. Square bales which were traditionally stacked into wagons during production would now be automatically thrown into wagons. Thus transferring the additional worker to the barn to stack the hay much faster.

1990s | Beef Cattle Production

Dairy Operations End: In light of reducing returns on milk production investments and lack of available financing, Thompson Farms decided to auction off cattle and milk production equipment.

Farming Remembers Richard K. Thompson (1926 - 1993): Founder Richard K. Thompson passed away on August 29, 1993 after complaining about feeling ill earlier that morning at the farm. Richard C. Thompson, a son of Richard K's, assumed operational leadership of the farm.

2000s | Farming In A New Millennium

Thompson Farms Online Launch: Following a technology upgrade in 2000, Thompson Farms was able to launch their website in November 2001 to bring the farm closer to friends, family, and the community.

Modern Day Farm Equipment: Thompson Farms invested in upgrades on more powerful and versatile farm equipment. Equipment such as the 100 horsepower tractor, a skid loader, and a German engineered round baller moved the farm forward in production.

Farming Remembers Richard C. Thompson (1947 - 2005): Richard C. Thompson, the second general manager of Thompson Farms passed away on August 20, 2005 after battling acute Leukemia since July of that year. Dan Thompson, Richard C's youngest brother, assumed operational leadership of the farm.

Agritourisum and The Corn Maze: During a period of three years, hundreds of people from the general public visited Thompson Farms to connect closer to rural America through the newly created Corn Maze in 2005. The Maze and all agritourism operations ended in 2007 following mounting operational cost and liabilities.

Reengineered Pasturing Systems: With the help of government grants, reconstructed state-of-the-art pasturing systems, including the Richard C. Thompson Memorial Feed Area in 2006 helped Thompson Farms provide improved grazing areas for cattle while creating environmental sustainability.

2010s | Yielding

iFarming: The Thompson Farms website celebrated its tenth year in 2011. In addition, Thompson Farms took part in a movement known as iFarming where farmers connect with people out in the field from the tractor via social media.

Increasing Yields and Producing New Products: Thompson Farms has been expanding their yield productions since 2005 and has introduced Soybean and Wheat to their 2014 product lineup. These expanded yields have enabled Thompson Farms to better serve our Pro Customers who purchase products from Thompson Farms in bulk.
